Porcupine Girl Impaled
Rosemary Feit CoveyTHE WORK According to Covey, this print demonstrates one way in which we experience pain. During pain, we can feel our bodies, our very selves, caught on spikes. We are struck down not from the outside but from within. However, the woman is not screaming. She is used to her condition, and moves forward, although her arms are pinned and made useless by the spikes that are outside emanations of her virtual condition. Covey states, “Although the print can be interpreted in other ways, it was a surprise to find they revealed what had previously been a private medical matter.”
